Return To Swimming Update – 30/7/2020

So on Monday 3rd August we as a club begin the tentative steps to getting back into the pool.
To put all the new guidelines into practise and to give us (and Everyone Active) an idea of how to move forward for the rest of the club, our Head Coach has invited our older top squad swimmers to some summer sessions.
This has been done with the hope of getting back to some sort of normality in September. We all know everything these days is fluid and we hope this is the start of getting back to a normal club life.
No date has been set for the whole club to return and discussions with Everyone Active are ongoing.
You can expect email communication regarding Swim Manager during the coming weeks.
As from the start of this unprecedented event we will keep everyone up to date when we know what is happening.

New Swim Manager Portal

Swim Manager Portal To Be Launched

With preperations for  a return too swimming well underway we are pleased to be able to share with all of our members the clubs new Swim Manager Portal. This is the new software that we will use for managing all aspects of our club.

Update for returning to swimming

Our meetings with Everyone Active are continuing. Unfortunately we are unable to confirm dates and times until Scarborough Borough Council confirm details with Everyone Active.

We are having a site visit today to look at the onsite arrangements including a one way system.

Once we have confirmed details we will share this with our members. What we do know so far is that there will be significant changes to our normal practises.

We are taking this opportunity to launch Swim Manager ( secure web based programme) which will streamline communication and payments.

Swim Manager information will be emailed to parents / carers / members when we are ready to ‘go live’. If you didn’t provide an email address or it has changed since joining, please can you let the club know via secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk

Thank you for the offers of help that were put forward during the member survey.

The Swim England guidance for clubs is 54 pages long and the committee want to make sure we get this right for the safety of our members and the club.

Concerns? Advice? Assistance? Feedback?

In preparation for a return and in accordance with Swim England’s advice to clubs, we have established a Planning Group and prepared a short survey to help members with questions or concerns – which is live until 21 June 2020 (access below).

Note: You can email anytime if you or someone you know in the club has a question, wants to let us know something or needs assistance (including club welfare matters). Usually this will be to the Club Secretary for COVID-19 or general matters and the Welfare Officer for confidential welfare assistance. Email us at:

Not everyone has access to this group – but it is currently our largest single meeting space until we complete transfer of club records to Swim Manager … more about that another time … so please do share the link as we would normally within the club for those you know are not group members, or ask them to contact the Club Secretary.

The survey is completed outside Facebook in a club controlled survey account.

Your response will help us understand your concerns and whether you are able to come back when safe to do so, and assist us in planning a return to swimming in the pool with Swim England and Everyone Active.

Please reply as an individual swimmer/volunteer OR on behalf of a family including yourself as a parent/carer/swimmer/volunteer.

In other words we need just one response per individual Master/Open Water swimmer and one response if you swim AND have junior members.

Parent and child viewpoints in your answers are equally important to gather feedback.

It’s finally here ……. if you haven’t gained enough weight from the lockdown it’s now time to come along to the safe distancing Kingos Chocolate Tombola.

Location – 1 Weydale Avenue

(opposite Kinderland)

Time – TODAY 11am – 3pm

£1 for 10 tickets.

This will be held in the garden weather permitting.

Please come along and support the club and stop the chocolate melting.

A Message From Our Club President – Maureen Dickinson

Kingfishers Swimming ClubHi Everyone,

What strange times we are living through and thank goodness we are still waking up each day to live through them.  For over 40 years my weeks have revolved around Kingfishers Swimming Club and I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms.

Our lives have literally been turned upside down and whilst the scientists struggle to learn more about this virus, we are adjusting and becoming used to a new kind of normal days.

So many changes around us are taking place. Family life has changed we cannot visit some of our close relatives, colleagues, school or college friends and team mates, and inevitably our priorities too are changing.  Some of us might be struggling with so many changes and our old priorities are shifting.

Our Kingfisher families are riding out this storm in many small boats.  When the storm has passed and we are able to pick up our swimming lives again, with whatever changes are made to keep us all safe, we will begin to deliver lessons and skill sets. We realise that there will be changes to our Kingfisher community and systems.

Via Microsoft Teams the committee are continuing to hold on line committee meetings, discussing how we can best manage change, Post Covid 19 preparations and are constantly looking for opportunities to help deliver our future.

One exciting development that your committee are working on whilst we are in lockdown is the use of Swim Manager Software. This software will help structure & manage our club by digitising all aspects of the club & will also offer many new features & opportunities for our members.

Stay safe everyone and keep well during this long lockdown.  It’s only been a matter of months and children change so quickly, I hope that when we do get back in the water, I am still able to recognise and remember the names our younger width swimmers.  I sometimes struggle to remember what day of the week it is for they are very much all the same just now.

Update 8th April, 2020.

A lot has happened since we suspended swimming on the 18th March; it turned out to be the correct one predating the government’s decision by a few days.
This message is an update prior to the unprecedented virtual committee meeting that will take place on Thursday via the wonders of ‘Office Teams’. This is to discuss the way forward and try to predict various scenarios so that when we return to swimming we are as prepared as possible.
The pool provider, Everyone Active (EA) kept going after the governments recommendations and eventually was one of the last Sports Villages to close in the North East. This might prove relevant as they may look to charge us for the pool time we didn’t fulfil whilst they were open and we were still within our ‘notice period’. At the moment the majority of E.A. staff have been ‘furloughed’ so meetings are not practical or possible.
Kingfishers have paid the Swim England dues of £4.123.30 (which is funded from the annual membership payment) and we have also allowed for backdated pool fees, various insurances and non running costs, so as a club, due to prudent housekeeping, at this time we are financially sound.
For this to continue we ask that could all members ensure that they are up to date with their swimming payments, making payment as soon as possible of any outstanding balances overdue for any previous months (including February and March 2020, plus any outstanding balance still overdue for annual membership.
Please note that if there are any problems do contact Paula Ambury (email addresses listed below) and we will be as sympathetic as possible in these extremely difficult times.
When we reopen we cannot realistically expect to start with a 100% attendance but hopefully experience a steady return and uptake as the country returns to the ‘new normal’. Understandingly the uptake will also be mainly dependant on families’ financial commitments.
Depending on timescales and coaching availability would running a programme through the August months be viable? Such are these types of questions that we will begin to formulate plans upon?
If anyone has any questions that we can reasonably attempt to answer, please don’t hesitate to ask, but as always please be aware as volunteers we don’t always have the answers that you may seek.
Stay safe and hopefully it will not be too long before we are back in the water.

We have had a fantastic response from our poolside and dryside helpers and could run training sessions. A massive thank you to all who have selflessly offered to volunteer their time.

However the Club trustees and committee have decided to suspend all swimming until further notice.

The commitee  will meet with E.A. and work out a pathway going forward.
Please bear with us while we work out the financial impact this will have on you as parents and swimmers, and as us as a club.

Due to the Government announcement on 16th March 2020 and the updated guidelines from Swim England Website (https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/events-cancelled-coronavirus/) Scarborough Swimming Club unfortunately have no option but to postpone our Spring Splash on Saturday 21st March 2020. We will issue more information, as it comes available.
