Your Club Needs You - MCC NI

We are looking for more volunteers to join the club committee. The committee meets once a month. If you feel you can help support the continued success of the club please contact Vicky (Hon. Secretary) on secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk
What does the committee do?
The organisation and operation of Kingfishers Swimming Club is the responsibility of its committee. As we are a registered charity, the committee are also the trustees.
The committee is charged with organising the efficient running of the club. All committee members are elected to their posts, but offer their time freely as volunteers. Maureen Dickinson (President),Colin Simmons (Chairperson), Vicky Gough (Hon. Secretary ) and Brian DeAlker (Hon. Treasurer) head-up our current committee. The committee comprises of parents of current swimmers, parents of swimmers who have now left and members of the poolside team.
The duties of the committee are wide ranging and encompass all aspects of the clubs administration such as finance, membership, welfare and child protection, pool hire, liaison with external organisations, organisation of club galas, arranging club/swimmer entry into competitions and of course supporting the club’s poolside team.
The committee meets monthly to discuss any issues related to the running of the club. They discuss both long-term issues in a planning capacity as well as smaller more immediate issues that arise during the course of the swimming year.

Kingfishers Newly Appointed Head Coach – Zoe Naylor

May be an image of 2 people and Arthur's Seat

From our newly appointed Head Coach, Zoe Naylor

As the Club’s new Head Coach, I’m really looking forward to building on the many successes we have already achieved and, supported by our already strong coaching team, our members and our Committee, delivering a healthy and vibrant future for our Club’s swim offer which will always have our swimmers at its heart.
I’ve been a coach at Kingfisher’s since 2020 and prior to that coached at Scarborough Swimming Club for several years where I made the first move from swimmer and swim parent to poolside. Swimming has always been a big part of my life. As a teenager, I swam competitively to National level. I’m a Level 2 Swim Coach and Open Water Coach and bring additional leadership skills from my 30-year management career in the creative industries. I’m a Mum to Jack and Bess (both swimmers and still involved in swimming). My other big passion, aside from swimming and being a Mum, is film – I run a film business and support young people from all over the UK to make short films for the British Film Institute.
It always feels like a privilege to support swimmers to achieve their goals, to be a part of their journey and to try to make all that hard work fun whilst enabling every swimmer to swim and train well, whatever their level. I respect every swimmer who trains and turns up for their sessions week after week to push themselves to achieve – swimming is a hard sport, one of the hardest – and am grateful for our volunteers who give their time to their club and look forward to working more closely with our swimmers’ parents who are always supportive. Kingfisher’s Swimming Club wouldn’t exist without you all and we will never take that for granted. Seeing all that hard work and joint effort come together at events and swim meets or even after a good session is always super rewarding.

Safeguarding – Kingfishers SC

Safeguarding – Awareness

Safeguarding is an integral part of any club and here at Kingfishers we take that role very seriously.
Safeguarding is EVERYONES responsibility from coaches to parents.
In the link below you will find a short training module which will give you a better understanding of safeguarding and what to do should you have any concerns.
We would like as many parents as possible to take part in the training.
If you require any further information about the training either before or after then please contact the club welfare officer Adrian.

You can be do this by logging in to Swim Manager and ticking the box on your account page. Please do this today, as we are applying for gift aid this month, and your tick means we can apply for Gift Aid for the last 4 years against your membership payments.

Meet the club welfare officer

Meet the club welfare officer…..

My name is Adrian and I am the Welfare Officer for Kingfishers Swimming Club. I have been involved in this role for just over 3 years. Previous to that I was just a happy grandparent sat on the balcony cooking alive watching my grandson swim.

I was originally born in Nottingham but landed in Scarborough around 1993 having moved down from Edinburgh. I have lived in a variety of areas including Cumbria, West Yorkshire and Wiltshire.

I have one son who has recently moved to live in New Zealand and 4 grandchildren 2 that currently swim for Kingfishers and one that is desperate to join when he is old enough. My 4th grandchild lives in Bangkok so a long way to come for a Wednesday night session.
