Kingfishers SC Scarborough – Ridings Winners 2024

Kingfishers SC Scarborough – Ridings winners 2024

May be an image of 9 people

On Sunday we were presented with our Ridings Trophy and gold medals for winning the Ridings league this year – the first time in Kingfisher’s history – what an amazing team effort it has been this year, thank you so much to everyone who has competed this year for us, all 42 of you.
I know every single one of you gave every race your all as individuals (often achieving some of your fastest swims) – we won the trophy this year through pulling together as a team, aiming to be the best we could be on the day together, whether that was making a huge effort to get there last minute to replace another team mate who could no longer make it, learning new skills such as step over take overs to help make us faster, or keeping plans clear so you were all available – we did it for each other and for our team and I couldn’t be more proud of, and grateful, for every single one of you.
Congratulations to Thirsk White Horse and Bridlington who came 2nd and 3rd and thanks for some strong competition from every team who took part and for all who helped organise these events – officials, the SADSA Executive, Everyone Active management and all the parents and other club volunteers, including many of our own, who gave up their time to ensure these galas happened and ran smoothly.
A huge thank you to our brilliant volunteer coaching team for being instrumental in helping us achieve these results as a Club and for giving up their time to be poolside (or in some cases, swim!) to support at every Ridings gala.
The Ridings is a Scarborough and District Swimming Association (SADSA) league of local grassroots swimming clubs coming together to compete and gain racing experience, and includes the organisation of Friendly League galas which we also competed in this year – thanks so much to all of you who swam, helped, organised and took part in those, we had some good successes and wins in those galas too. SADSA is a great organisation to be a part of, pulling together to make ourselves stronger and give ourselves a voice in a county of already very strong swimming clubs.
On Sunday many of our swimmers (a record breaking 49 of you for this event) took part in the annual SADSA Championships at our pool – several of our swimmers from across our Performance and Development squads were trying new events, or using the meet to add some good racing practise into their weekly training, or aiming to better their times. I didn’t expect some squads to get any PBs at all on Sunday because we are in the middle of a really hard training block ready for the Counties or Regionals next year but many of you did! 50% of your races ended up in you getting a new personal best time (PBs) – well done! Some of you even gained new Yorkshire and North Eastern times for next year – you now have 135 Yorkshire and North Eastern Qualifying times for next year between you!
Thanks so much, as always, to our coaching team, officials, poolside team and other helpers and to SADSA for organising another good day of racing at our pool.
Since our last racing update from the North Eastern Championships, Eliza Hammond, a long time Kingfisher member and currently training in our Senior Performance squad has qualified for, and is entered to compete at the Winter National Championships in Sheffield this December. What an incredible achievement, and hot on the heels of competing at, and reaching the finals of the Summer Nationals earlier this year. Very well done Eliza!
What an amazing team we are so lucky to have!
Ridings dates for your diaries for next year (let’s see if we can hold onto our crown – all galas will take place at our pool again and the team will be selected on specific criteria including fastest times, warm up will be 6pm for a 6:30pm start)…
Saturday January 11 2025

Saturday May 17th

Well done Everyone
Special thank you to Head Coach Zoe for pulling together this report !!

Scarborough Winter Meet Information

Message from event organiser

Hello all,

The Scarborough SC Winter Open 2024 is just around the corner. Before we dive in, please take a moment to carefully review the following key information to ensure everything runs smoothly for everyone involved.

1. Poolside and Changing Room Rules

A quick but important reminder to all swimmers:

  • Bags are NOT permitted on poolside.
  • Phones should NOT be used in the changing rooms unless for medical reasons.

Any swimmer found in violation of these rules will be removed from the session. This is non-negotiable, so please ensure all swimmers understand and follow these rules for a safe and focused environment.

2. 800m & 1500m Events

For swimmers competing in the 800m and 1500m events, training times are permitted for any NT (No Time) entries. It is critical that these are entered accurately to ensure correct placement in heats. Please double-check all entries to avoid any complications.

3. Updating Swimming Times

It’s essential that all swimmers update their times before the event to ensure accurate heat placements. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to openmeets.co.uk
  2. Find Scarborough SC Winter Open 2024
  3. Click Entry List and locate your club
  4. Click Entries by Swimmer
  5. Hit the circular arrow to update
  6. Follow the instructions on the next page
  7. Open the rankings data in a separate tab (click “Click here” when ready)
  8. Press Ctrl + A (to select all), then Ctrl + C (to copy)
  9. Return to the entry page and Ctrl + V (paste) into the pink box

It only takes a couple of minutes, but it is vital for ensuring the entries are correct and all swimmers are properly placed in their heats.

4. Coaches’ Poolside Passes

Coaches: You should have already received an email with a Microsoft Form to fill out in order to receive your poolside pass. This form must be completed by all coaches who require a pass.

ImportantAny coach who has not filled out this form will NOT be given a poolside pass—no exceptions. Please complete the form ASAP to avoid any last-minute issues.

5. Balcony Access and Cleaning

Parents, please note that the balcony must be cleared at the end of each session for cleaning purposes. This includes all personal belongings. We will reopen the balcony as soon as it is cleaned, but your cooperation in clearing the area quickly is essential.

Additionally, please remind all parents that access to the changing rooms will NOT be allowed during the meet, and that we are operating a cashless entry system. Please make sure any payments are made electronically prior to the event to ensure smooth entry.

6. Warm-Up Schedule

It’s going to be a fantastic weekend filled with exciting competition. Let’s make sure we’re all on the same page so we can focus on giving our best performances!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Scarborough SC Winter Open 2024! ????????

Club Captains

Club Captains!

We managed to get a photo of Joe, Bess, Alicia and Sam, our brilliant Club Captains for the next year, at our final Ridings gala the other week and at our Club Night last week, our Chairperson, Kath, presented them with their t-shirts.

They already have lots of projects in the pipeline and went along to this month’s Committee Meeting to represent our swim members – they are your voice and they want to help support and represent you, so please chat to them if you have any ideas, have a question (remember, no question is a silly question) or just want to check in!

Joe, Bess, Alicia and Sam, you are already excelling in your roles – the support and advice you offer our swimmers poolside at meets and galas and the encouragement and your positive role modelling makes a huge difference to our team, thank you for being amazing and for the contribution you give to your Club!

Scarborough Spring Splash Report (By Head Coach Zoe)

As well as earning enough points from all our swimmers races to put us on the top spot on the Top Club table at the Spring Splash yesterday and Saturday, some individual swimmers from Kingfishers deserve a big shout out for their positions in the Top Swimmers ranking tables from the meet. Very well done to Sami, Ella and Toby who gained 1sts in their age groups. George and Charlie Bob gained 3rd and 4th in their age group. Lexie and Joe got 3rds in the oldest age group and Alicia and Laila also gained top ten placings. Some brilliant swimming – well done to everyone who took part, we really enjoyed supporting you and watching you all swim! Full club results here

Open Water Is Back!!!

Sessions start on Monday the 29thof April at 6PM in our usual spot at Wykeham lakes.

The water will be around 8-10 degrees and our first few sessions will be dips rather than swims for most, we do encourage our younger swimmers to wait a month before coming up so the water does warm up a little and always with an adult to take care of them as they come out.

Open water training is open to all club swimmers over the age of 10 who can swim at least mile.

Please talk to Paula Ambury frontdesk@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk if you are in any doubt.

If new to open water please speak to Paula before attending a session.

You will need lots of warm layers for after your swim, flip flops/sliders or crocs for walking to and from the water and a dry robe or dressing gown to wear before getting in.

We also need volunteer kayakers; the club will provide the life jackets and kayaks along with biscuits and hot chocolate after the session has finished.

If you think you could help, please come down to the lake on the 29th April, park in the main car park and walk down to towards the water on your right. You will see the containers to your left and lots of blue T-shirts. The open water section work towards local sea swims, national competitions and marathon team relay swims to name just a few. Some of our swimmers just swim to clear their minds and rest themselves.

Whatever your reason please come down and see what we are all about, we look forward to seeing you.
