Kingfishers News – 16th Dec 2020

Dear Member/Parent/Guardian

The committee, officers, coaching and teaching teams wish everyone connected with Kingfishers a peaceful and (as much as it can be in the circumstances) restful Christmas and New Year – and we hope to see you all when we resume in January, all being well and subject to social distancing!

Highlights:

Please note below the Christmas break dates and information about membership renewals and training plan costs.  A huge amount of time has been given this year to keeping the club running safely and as ‘normal’ as possible for our swimmers in these very strange and challenging times.  The club is grateful and thankful for the support of volunteers, members and their families as we look forward to 2021 and beyond …

:: Annual membership not increasing for 2021

:: Deferment of payment of annual membership due 1st January until 1st February

:: Swim England Cat 1 affiliation fee continues to be included

:: Cat 2 fees and Level X Series 2

:: No immediate change to training fees (subject to review in March)

:: Last session before Christmas break and return date

Annual Membership Renewal, Cat 2 and Level X

Following last week’s AGM and committee meeting I am very pleased to report the club continues to be in a strong financial position during these uncertain times.  We will be sharing shortly the Chair’s report and key Officers’ reports with you.

I can confirm Swim England affiliation fees are not increasing and county fees are suspended due to the current circumstances.

I am also pleased to confirm there will be no increase in annual membership this year, and Cat 1 affiliation for swimmers continues to be included.

The Level X Racing Series 2 competition will be run during normal Top Squad sessions and held under gala conditions.

The coaching team intend for all top squad competitive swimmers to take part.

Level X competitors will be renewed as Cat 2 at an additional cost (as usual) of £18.55 payable on 1st February.  Inclusion in the Level X entry list confirms your agreement to this charge as the club will be billed even if no other licenced meets occur this year.  Entries will be communicated separately in the near future.

If you are a tax payer please ensure you log in to Swim Manager and tick acceptance of the Gift Aid form for our records so we can make your annual membership payment benefit our swimmers even more, at no additional cost to you.

The club have deferred the date for payment of annual membership from 1st January until 1st February (but the payment will need to be the full amount).

We realize many families have been affected by furlough or employment changes and we want to help ease the burden after early payment of December salaries and other expenses you may have at this time of year. We need to collect payment in full as we pay Swim England affiliation by mid-February, so please budget for this. If you have any concerns regarding payment of membership or training fees please contact me at the secretary@ email address below on a confidential basis.

Training Fees

More good news – training fees will not be increased in the first quarter of 2021.

The committee would like to encourage as many swimmers as possible to continue to swim with the club and the more that do the less pressure on club finances. The committee will review swimmer numbers and costs in March with the hope there will be no need for any adjustment if numbers swimming remain sustainable for the current pool time hired. We will give notice if any changes are required nearer the time and seek to minimize them.

In the meantime … please keep safe and keep swimming!

Break Dates and Covid Health Forms!

If you/your child has not returned since lockdown 2, but intends to do so in January please ensure you return the Covid Health Survey and Covid Declaration Forms before the first session.

Final session before Christmas break is Sunday 20th December 2020.

Even though there are no club sessions during the Christmas period we still have a duty to provide details for Covid 19 track and trace.

The Club Secretary is the point of contact for track and trace. If you are asked to provide details as part of the track and trace procedures please use the secretary@ email address.

First session after Christmas Break – note any timing changes – Monday 4th January 2021.

Timing Changes

Please note Monday’s session will be running half hour earlier (6.00 pm – 8.00 pm)

If you started at 6.30 pm, your new time will be 6.00 pm and so on.

Masters swimmers, your Wednesday session has been moved to Fridays, 7.00 pm – 8.00pm.

Lockdown Update – Kingfishers SC Re-Opening Plans, Training Fee Suspension, Prize Draw and More …

Dear Parents, Swimmers, Families and Friends

https://kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk/useful-links/
Also watch out for updates on our Facebook Group as to what is happening …

Re-Opening Plans

The committee recently met to review where we are and our Chair and Secretary this week had an update meeting online with Everyone Active and Matt Hewison, Sports Development Officer at Scarborough Borough Council.
It is our intention to restart swimming as soon as the lockdown ends on Saturday 5th of December, as we hope the Sports Village will re-open earlier that week, subject to local measures; we will confirm what is happening nearer the time.

Training Fees Suspended For Lockdown

We are not taking any payment from members for November although we swam through the first few days of the month.
As we plan to re-open with the next club swim session after we closed, in the same week of the month, we will take a payment in early December as pool bills will still have to be paid!
We would like to thank Everyone Active however for agreeing a phased charging structure to assist clubs in re-opening and fixing their rate for the next 12 months from January, which gives the club certainty in planning and budgeting for 2021, and also to thank the council for their support of Kingfishers in these unprecedented times.

Looking forward to 2021

We are all looking forward to what the new year will bring …
In January membership and Swim England affiliation will be renewing for all our members, as usual, and the committee will both hold the postponed AGM on December 10th (hopefully – check your email!) and hold a committee meeting to plan our operations from January and we can confirm that the club is in a strong financial position to continue at the present time.
We are looking to see how we can assist members at a very expensive time of the year in re-joining the club – more of that later, after the new committee have met.

Investment in Poolside Team

We are pleased to confirm after Covid related delays for 2 of our mentee poolside helpers, we have now funded 4 Level 1 Assistant Swim Teacher training courses for Holly, Lauren, Tom and Phoebe who are hard at work preparing for their theory assessments – and thanks to Sherril and Everyone Active for working together to, we hope, arrange local sessions in Scarborough for them to complete their practical assessment days.

Christmas Prize Draw!

We encourage members to support this and to promote it to friends and family.  This is our main fundraising event this year – and has some amazing gifts.  We would like to thank the sponsors who have assisted by funding prizes for their generous donations, including Our Co. and MKN Surveyors.

Tickets are available by emailing Kay at the address below and all tickets are £1 payable by bank transfer after exchanging emails with Kay.  Entries should be made by those over 18 years of age and via this email address only please whilst the pool is closed.

Thanks for all the hard work put in by Kay!

All Swimmers – Covid Update @ 9/10/2020

Update 9/10/20:

With Covid infections rising rapidly in the local area we are requesting that our members assist in reducing our risk by taking the following increased measures:

Swimmers – Please can all swimmers consider wearing a mask on entering the building and leaving poolside. Masks to be removed before entering the water and put on again while swimmers change after the session and leaving the building. Masks to be put in swimmers bag not on the benches. Age and exemptions set out by the government may apply.
Balcony – Please can all coming into the building and going onto the balcony consider wearing a mask / face covering. Government exemptions may apply.
Parents / Guardians, please collect your child promptly from their session. This avoids any congestion of swimmers near the fire exit waiting for parents (reducing risk)
Useful link to goverment guidance:
Any questions / queries please email secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk
Thank you for your continued support
Kingfishers Committee

Returning Widths Swimmers @Wed 7th Oct 6.30pm

1. We understand some parents may be hesitant about their child returning to the pool but please email secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk to let us know if your child is retuning or not.

2. If your child is returning, you will need to complete the covid health and declaration form and return to the above email address at least the day before they return so it can be processed. If no form is received then your child will be turned away at the pool.

3. Some widths swimmers also had a session in lengths on a weekend. For now, they will be returning to Wednesday session only to build up fitness. This will be reviewed during October.

4. Please ensure you log in to swim manager to confirm contact and medical details are correct.

5. Swimmers arrive beach style ready and leave with clothes on over their costume / trunks

6. Please remember we are only able to allow one parent to watch from the balcony & the wearing of face masks is compulsory. This is to help reduce the risk of Covid-19 spreading. All social distancing must be maintained & current Covid-19 guidance followed whilst attending sessions.

Please do not forget…. HANDS – FACE – SPACE.

Thank you for your adherence & understanding

Important Covid-19 Guidance Update@26/9/2020

Covid-19 Guidance Update – Swimmers & Parents/Carers

Face Coverings:

Please be aware when attending our swimming sessions that it is now mandatory to wear face coverings on the balcony & inside the building unless carrying out activities.

Track & Trace:

NHS Test and Trace App is now live and Everyone Active Scarborough has a QR Code for the site as required by law.
We are encouraging all of our users to scan the QR Code displayed on the entry doors every session so NHS can successfully track and trace.
THIS DOES NOT REPLACE THE CURRENT TEST AND TRACE PROCEDURES. JUST ADDS TO.

Useful Information…..

Please remember to adhere to the following :

1. Use a Facecovering when on the Balcony at the pool.

2. Download the NHS Covid 19 app and scan the QR code each time you enter the pool for Test and Trace; however this will not replace our current procedures. https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-covid-19/

3. Inform the Club if your child is ill.  We will be following the guidelines on the attached document which is a guide for swimmers. The ‘what to do if’ and ‘action needed’ section. For the club inform secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk
