Yorkshire Championships – Open Age Group Report

Yorkshire Championships Report:

What a brilliant weekend in Leeds at the Yorkshire Championships with our aged 13+ swimmers. The new kit looked great poolside, almost as good as our swimmers in the pool but that was always going to take some beating as they all did so brilliantly well – PBs, top tens and race plans well executed. I was super impressed by our team’s maturity and approach to their races – focused, mentally ready and so supportive of each other which built confidence across the team with hurdles overcome together ???????????? Swimming, as with life, has its ups and downs but when you know you have a team of friends and family supporting you it makes the tough times so much easier. Well done team and good luck to our swimmers competing at next weekend’s Yorkshire Championships in Sheffield.

Thanks so much to Team Manager Tim who was poolside with me all weekend and Simon and Nigel who were officiating – without a team of generous volunteers who give up their time, these events just wouldn’t happen. Thanks to Shaun for managing all our entries and of course, huge thanks to all our dedicated coaches who support our swimmers year round.

Club Captains

Club Captains!

We managed to get a photo of Joe, Bess, Alicia and Sam, our brilliant Club Captains for the next year, at our final Ridings gala the other week and at our Club Night last week, our Chairperson, Kath, presented them with their t-shirts.

They already have lots of projects in the pipeline and went along to this month’s Committee Meeting to represent our swim members – they are your voice and they want to help support and represent you, so please chat to them if you have any ideas, have a question (remember, no question is a silly question) or just want to check in!

Joe, Bess, Alicia and Sam, you are already excelling in your roles – the support and advice you offer our swimmers poolside at meets and galas and the encouragement and your positive role modelling makes a huge difference to our team, thank you for being amazing and for the contribution you give to your Club!

Swim England – Keep It In Your Locker

Keep It In Your Locker – Swim England

‘Keep it in Your Locker’ aims to raise awareness of a recently-introduced element in Wavepower which prohibits the use of a mobile phone or device in changing rooms during Swim England regulated activity.

It was brought in at the beginning of 2024 as part of a revised version of Swim England’s safeguarding policy and procedures document to help protect members from instances of inappropriate photos or video footage being taken.

Open Water Is Back!!! Sessions start on Monday the 29th of April at 6PM in our usual spot at Wykeham lakes.

Open Water Is Back!!!

Sessions start on Monday the 29thof April at 6PM in our usual spot at Wykeham lakes.

The water will be around 8-10 degrees and our first few sessions will be dips rather than swims for most, we do encourage our younger swimmers to wait a month before coming up so the water does warm up a little and always with an adult to take care of them as they come out.

Open water training is open to all club swimmers over the age of 10 who can swim at least mile.

Please talk to Paula Ambury frontdesk@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk if you are in any doubt.

If new to open water please speak to Paula before attending a session.

You will need lots of warm layers for after your swim, flip flops/sliders or crocs for walking to and from the water and a dry robe or dressing gown to wear before getting in.

We also need volunteer kayakers; the club will provide the life jackets and kayaks along with biscuits and hot chocolate after the session has finished.

If you think you could help, please come down to the lake on the 29th April, park in the main car park and walk down to towards the water on your right. You will see the containers to your left and lots of blue T-shirts. The open water section work towards local sea swims, national competitions and marathon team relay swims to name just a few. Some of our swimmers just swim to clear their minds and rest themselves.

Whatever your reason please come down and see what we are all about, we look forward to seeing you.
