Swim England’s Inspirational Youth Champion Award Winner!!

Congratulations & well done to one of our Kingfisher youth coaches, Jack Naylor and all at Swim England’s North East Regional Youth Forum for winning Swim England’s Inspirational Youth Champion Award last tonight.

Jack is the Chair of the North East Youth Forum and has worked tirelessly throughout the year. Jack spent time throughout the summer helping young swimmers stay safe in the sea working with the Swim Safe programme, saving, and helping people on our local beaches for the RNLI, supporting Kingfisher SC’s open water sessions and his mum Zoey on her many sea swims, not forgetting the volunteer work that he does coaching our younger Kingfisher swimmers & also the officiating at swim galas.

The Swim England North East Region Youth Forum’s aims are to:

  • Represent the interest of young people participating or volunteering within aquatics within the North East Region.
  • Develop a network of young people throughout the organisation and the sport across the region.
  • Assist on projects within the Northeast Region such as the development of resources and training opportunities for young volunteers.
  • Act as ambassadors for the sport and the organization at a local, county, regional and national level. Be a representative for the sport and the organization.
  • Positively engage with youth and young adult members in an engaging way which motivates them to represent the interests of young people in a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable manner.

The Swim England North East Region’s Youth Forum has a maximum of 20 permanent members between the ages of 13 and 25 and looks to meet a minimum of 4 times each year.

6 lane pool with electronic timekeeping system (this is not a licensed meet)

Trophy for the winning team on the night

This  meet is a Ridings Team event (by invitation only) with the coaching team making the selection from our squad of swimmers.

Team selection is at the bottom of this mail.

Poolside Team: Jon Cheshire, Kev Hope, Mike Draper TBC

Timekeepers & Judge – Shaun Vasey, Simon Benson & Nigel Walls. Relay splits – TBC

After a long break from competing, we are really pleased that we can get back to racing again as a team. Age groups have been reorganised from previous years to reflect that some of the younger swimmers in our region haven’t had the opportunity to gain much team racing experience since 2019.

Owing to the continued prevalence of COVID within our community, to limit risk, we will not be providing a team bus & ask that swimmers be transported to the gala independently wearing their swimming costumes to limit use of the changing rooms and do a lateral flow test the morning of the gala. Once poolside, please limit toilet visits and keep your kit and personal belongings in your bag. Spectators are asked to wear a face covering when moving around the leisure centre. Please do not attend if you have COVID symptoms.

Thank you so much in advance to all our amazing volunteers for supporting these galas – we can’t run them without you.

Please can all swimmers confirm to the coaching team that they can attend.

Swimmers should aim to be poolside no later than 3:20pm

Be part of the team, have fun and support each other!

If swimmers need to leave the poolside for any reason, please tell the poolside team where you are going. Wear your club kit and cap if possible. Bring something to eat (snacks – fruit, nuts, etc.), an extra towel, a bottle of water/plenty to drink, spare goggles and a hat if you have them and if you take medication, please make sure you have this with you. Loads more info here about what you might need especially if this is your first gala.

The team is the fastest combination of swimmers, per age group, chosen in consultation with members of the coaching team and final approval from the Head Coach.

Spectator tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis and will cost £2

Remember please confirm swimmers’ availability ASAP

Please read the important email extract from the meet organizer below for spectator ticket allocation information –

Dear all,

The Club has been receiving a lot of communication about spectator tickets for our gala next weekend.  We have been unable to sell tickets in advance given the uncertainty of the impact of Covid and potential restrictions.  At present, the Club is expecting to be able to accommodate spectators at the venue next weekend although you will appreciate that Covid remains a fluid situation.

Spectator tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis subject to the maximum seated venue capacity of 240.  This is likely to mean in view of the number of swimmers per session (especially on the Saturday) that we cannot guarantee a seat to all that attend and we may be required to impose a restriction on the maximum number of tickets issued per family.

Tickets will also only be issued per session (afternoon & evening of each day).  There will be no all day tickets available in order to accommodate full cleaning of the spectator area, but this will not affect the original discounted price offered to those spectators who attend both sessions on the production of a wristband from the earlier session of that same day.

We would ask that you communicate this to your members and ask that they consider limiting the number of potential spectators attending to avoid any disappointment on the day.  We appreciate that everyone is really keen to see swimmers back in the pool and we are fortunate to be able to offer the opportunity in these post Covid times but would appreciate everyone’s assistance in ensuring that this can happen.

We will be sending a program and further meet information to you by email next week for you to forward to all your members who will be attending.

We look forward to meeting with you all for a great weekend of swimming.

Regards

Swimming Restart – Monday 6th September

Welcome back to our swimmers, parents and carers.

As we are all aware the government changed the ruling on face coverings, social distancing and isolation; the mitigation measures that have helped keep swimmers and volunteers safe in these difficult times.

The current Swim England advice for clubs is to continue with the good practice that clubs have had in place since the first lockdown.

The committee met on 2nd September and agreed that our duty of care must remain for our many volunteers and swimmers, therefore our procedures that are in place for swimmers will continue (as advised in the Parent Swimmer booklet April 2021).

  • Wait outside the building
  • Club official will let you in 5 minutes before the session is due to start
  • Wear a face covering when inside the building
  • Arrive beach style ready
  • Put clothes on over swimwear while poolside after swim session
  • Leave via the poolside fire exit

The balcony will now be open at every session.

However, the committee are putting in place some mitigating measures to reduce the risk that this may pose and we ask for our members / parents support to ensure we can safely keep the balcony open. In an ever changing world, if the committee feel that the Covid situation in our local area increases to a point that we need to reduce risk further, then the balcony may close and we will revert back to parents of children 8 years and under only

The measures below have been put in place before and we know this worked so we are asking all of our members and parents to support the club in following these:

  • If you want to watch your child swimming, we are asking that only 1 adult accompanies each swimmer and where possible non swimming siblings do not attend. If this causes a child care issue please let the club know via email secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk
  • We advise you wear a face covering while on the balcony. Please respect each others decision with this.
  • Please allow space between yourself and others on the balcony
  • One way system is in operation – enter normal door and exit via the far end of the balcony. Please ensure you do this to avoid congestion in the reception area. This is a club request not Everyone Active.
  • No lingering, at the end of the session please exit via the far end of the balcony and head outside to swimmer collection point.

Kingfishers has so far had a successful and safe return to the pool for our members and volunteers. Through careful planning and everyone involved following our club rules we have not had any covid transmission in the club. It was only at the very end of the summer term that we had to isolate lanes due to swimmers testing positive through transmission outside of swimming.

Our club Covid Lead is Vicky Gough. She can be contacted on email secretary@kingfishersswimmingclub.org.uk .

At each training session there will be a Covid Link person from the Club Committee or bank of DBS cleared volunteers who will be monitoring that procedures are followed. All involved in the club have a collective responsibility.

Any problems will be communicated back to the Covid Lead who can address these and communicate where necessary with Everyone Active and the rest of the club.

Further advice on returning to swimming can be found on the Swim England Website here

Current NHS guidance on self isolation can be found here

All members have been sent an email with a new link to the Swim England Health Survey that is to be completed online before your first session.

Covid Swimming Update 19/7/2021

North Yorkshire is now on step 4 of the government’s #coronavirus roadmap and most restrictions have been lifted.

The virus is still with us and we all need to work together to stop the spread. So please keep on:
•  washing your hands regularly
•  wearing a face covering in indoor areas with people you don’t know, crowded outdoor areas and public transport
•  making space between ourselves and others
•  testing regularly even if you don’t have symptoms
Please get both doses of your vaccine as soon as you’re able to and if you have any coronavirus symptoms, no matter how mild, isolate and book a PCR test.
Thank you for being part of #TeamNorthYorkshire and respecting and protecting those around you.

Important Covid Communication Please Read (All Members)

Covid Communication @ 12:30pm Sat 17th July

We are all aware the government have made the decision to relax most of the restrictions from Monday 19th July. Indeed Everyone Active and Swim England are returning to almost ‘business as usual’.

The committee do not feel this is the right thing for us to do at this time considering how the cases of Covid-19 in our local schools are increasing and we have a duty of care for all our members and volunteers. We all want a summer break free from periods of isolation due to positive cases.

This week we have had notification of 2 swimmers who have tested positive for Covid-19.

The committee met virtually yesterday evening to discuss the current situation and have decided that for the safety of all our members and volunteers, the current rules we have must stay in place i.e. THERE WILL BE NO CHANGES.

Please refer to the Parent swimmer guide dated April 2021 for what this means entirely.

Key points:

  1. Arrive beach style ready
  2. Swimmers to continue to wear masks if over 11years old as this is an inside facility that could be classed as busy
  3. Change poolside
  4. No changing rooms available
  5. No access to the balcony unless parent of child 8 years or under. Those parents accessing the balcony please wait until all the swimmers are in before you enter the building. Also scan the facility QR code for track and trace
  6. Swimmers to wait outside until volunteer brings in the group 5 minutes before session starts.

Members Action:

If you / your child has been absent from swimmer for a week or more (for whatever reason) please complete a new Covid Health Form on this link:

https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=1iTazymRakejRMpG0aIQkr8_gumMHGlOkdziEr_VbppUNFlMVkdJMVFES1JQUzRESTdLR0xEMjRTNi4u

If you  or your child feel unwell in anyway/ more tired than usual / hay-fever symptoms please do not attend the session. These are symptoms that are been reported to us by people who have tested positive. Please follow the NHS procedures regarding testing.

The club will review this over the summer holidays and release a statement regarding arrangements at the pool in time for our return on week beginning 6th September.

Please support us in this last push to the summer break.
