Kingfishers – Yorkshire Championships Review (February 2020)
The Yorkshire Championships are held over four weekends in February at Pond Forge (Sheffield) & the John Charles Aquatics Centre (Leeds). Swimming at this event is by invitation only & is achieved by swimmers meeting a qualification time whilst swimming at licensed open meets throughout the year. These championships bring together the best swimmers in our county all competing for the kudos of Yorkshires number one swimmer.
Congratulations to the following 9 swimmers who qualified & have been swimming over the last four weekends.

This years championships have resulted in some excellent swims with four of our swimmers Eliza Hammond, Tom Eblet, David Hope & Izzy Vasey reaching multiple finals in their respective events, a fantastic achivement from a small club swimming against the bigger city clubs whom have greater access to water time & national level training facilities.
Full summary of results as follows:
Every swimmer performed fantastically & many pbs &, NER qualifying times achieved, but without a doubt the performance of the championships came from Eliza Hammond who took a silver medal in the 14 year girls 50m Backstroke with a new pb time of 31.94s (1 sec off her qualification time).
Well done to everyone who competed & also a big thank you to the coaching & poolside management team for supporting our swimmers over the last four weekends.
Back into training now in preparation for the NER’s in May …….

Individual events: £6.00 each
Coaches & Poolside Passes: £25.00 each including Buffet Lunch
Spectator Tickets: £8 per day, £5 per Morning/Afternoon/Evening

This Ridings League meet is on 7th March at Derwent, warm up at 16:00. Details of transport lift sharing…
We currently head the table in the Ridings League it would be great to build on the success of our home meet & follow it up with a second win….
Team selection has been made by the coaching team please can everyone selected confirm with Jon that you can attend.
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO BUS FOR THIS EVENT ANYONE REQUIRING A LIFT PLEASE SEE THE COACHES & WE WILL SORT ONE OUT….
In the event of any swimmers that are unavailable to attend the coach will look to the reserve list.

There are still some families who have not paid ANY PART OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP !!
If this applies to you – you must pay at least half by next Wednesday (unless you have spoken to us and arranged an alternative)
if you do not pay membership your child will not be insured and will be turned away.
There are also still some swimming weekly who haven’t paid January subs?
We cannot allow this to continue without prior arrangement – you wouldn’t shop each week and pay the store at the end of the month would you?

Would you like to spend the day working with one of our International Swimming Coaches & watch technical demonstrations from an International swimmer?
We have a maximum of 5 swimmers/lane and our clinics include:
2 swim sessions working on technique drills, starts & turns with demonstrations from an international swimmer
1 dryland session covering warm up, stretching, injury prevention, strength & conditioning and core stability exercises
1 motivational workshop by a former international swimmer
Breaststroke clinic for swimmers aged 11-16 years from 10.00am-4.45pm only £70.00
Breaststroke clinic for swimmers aged 8-10 years from 10.00am-4.15pm only £55.00
There will also be time throughout the day for autographs and pictures with our guest international swimmers!

2020 Easter Egg Tombola
Kingfishers Easter Egg Tombola
The club will be holding their annual Easter fundraiser on club night Wednesday 1st April 6.30pm. This will take the form of the ever popular Easter egg tombola.
However the club do need donations of Easter eggs / treats for the tombola. These can be brought to the front desk on a club night over the next few weeks.
If anyone is able to approach their work place to request a donation it would be much appreciated. A promotional photo call in appreciation can be arranged. Any questions please see Kay Noble.
Raffle tickets for the large egg will be available nearer the time.
All funds raised go back into the club for the benefit of all the swimmers.

As Chairman of Kingfishers S.C. It is my sad duty to announce the sudden and unexpected loss of our most dynamic, friendly, passionate, forward thinking, protective, funny, loyal, club life member, and the hardest working secretary any club could wish for,
Amanda Lee.
I can only guide you to all the tributes posted elsewhere on social media to emphasise and show how much Amanda is respected and loved.
The whole swimming club sends its heartfelt love and condolences to Alex and Katie.
We as a Club will support you two however we can.
I would ask all members, parents, prospective new swimmers and associates to bear with us as we try to take in the tremendous effect this has had on our club. It’s not a void that has been left, it’s a chasm.
We will endeavour to try to fill this as I know Amanda will expect nothing less than perfect.
